The Parma Animal Shelter was busy last weekend cleaning up 34 dogs taken from a home on W. 54th Friday morning.
The warrant was executed at the home because of deplorable conditions.
Animal control officials from Berea, Parma, and Independence were on scene along with the Parma Fire Department serving a Housing Department warrant around 10 a.m. when the animal discovery came.
Once inside, officials agree saying the home was unlivable. Investigators discovered more than 300 animals; including 34 dogs and six cats, 250 birds, 16 rabbits and 30 quail.
The owner, Delores Buckley, was cited on the spot.
The shelter reported that the dogs all appear to be healthy and were not skinny or sickly. They have all been flea and parasite treated, which is a normal procedure in a case like this.
They say right now, adoption of the animals hasn’t started. The dogs with litters are being kept separate from the rest of the dogs for the time being.
The shelter is seeking items to help them care and help the overwhelming population they now have.
Items needed include: brand new dog toys, bleach, paper towels, trash bags, Dawn dish soap, small choker chains and monetary donations.
The shelter said they have been doing fine and holding their own, but this case is setting them back.
If you would like your donation earmarked for this, please make a note about the donation in the memo line. Or if you bring them cash, ask a volunteer for an envelope and have them mark it as such. They track donations and will use it towards medical expenses.
