Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell, set to have his statue unveiled in Boston in two weeks, was arrested Wednesday at Sea-Tac International Airport after a handgun was found in his luggage, KIRO-TV Seattle reported Friday night.
According to the Seattle news station, Russell was cited by Port of Seattle police on a state charge for allegedly bringing a handgun into a prohibited area. He has a permit for the .38-caliber Smith & Wesson, the station reported, but firearms are prohibited in carry-on baggage, where his handgun was found at a routine screening. The gun was confiscated and Russell was detained for about 30 minutes, according to the Boston Globe.
